Tā. Sīn. Mīm. (1)
THESE ARE MESSAGES of the divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. (2)
Wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death [with grief] because they [who live around thee] refuse to believe [in it]? (3)
Had We so willed, We could have sent down unto them a message from the skies, so that their necks would [be forced to] bow down before it in humility. (4)
[But We have not willed it:] and so, whenever there comes unto them any fresh reminder from the Most Gracious, they [who are blind of heart] always turn their backs upon it: (5)
thus, indeed, have they given the lie [to this message as well]. But [in time] they will come to understand what it was that they were wont to deride! (6)
Have they, then, never considered the earth – how much of every noble kind [of life] We have caused to grow thereon? (7)
In this, behold, there is a message [unto men], even though most of them will not believe [in it]. (8)
But, verily, thy Sustainer – He alone – is almighty, a dispenser of grace! (9)
- thus, indeed, have they given the lie [to this message as well]. But [in time] they will come to understand what it was that they were wont to deride!5
- 5 See 6:4-5 and the corresponding note 4.
- They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at!3141
- 3141 They may laugh at Allah's Message of righteousness, but they will soon see the power of Truth and realise the real significance of the movement which they opposed. Where were the Pagans of Makkah after Badr, and still more, after the bloodless surrender of Makkah? The meaning may be applied universally throughout history.
-
They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at!
— Abdullah Yusuf Ali -
Now they have denied (the Truth); but there will come unto them tidings of that whereat they used to scoff.
— Marmaduke Pickthall -
So they have indeed rejected (the truth), therefore the news of that which they mock shall soon come to them.
— M. Habib Shakir -
So they have indeed denied (the truth - this Qur'an), then the news of what they mocked at, will come to them.
— Taqiuddin Hilali and M. Mohsin Khan -
So they have surely belied; wherefore anon there shall come unto them the truth of that whereat they were wont to mock.
— Abdul-Majid Daryabadi -
So, they belied, but surely the tidings of that they mocked will come to them.
— Hasan Qaribullah and Ahmed Darwish -
Now they have cried lies, so there shall come to them the news of that they were mocking at.
— Ayub Khan -
They have, indeed, treated it as a lie but soon there will come to them the tidings of that at which they mocked.
— Sher Ali -
thus, indeed, have they given the lie [to this message as well]. But [in time] they will come to understand what it was that they were wont to deride!
— Muhammad Asad -
So they have cried lies; therefore assuredly tidings will come to them of that they mocked at.
— Arthur Arberry -
Now that they have rejected it, they will soon come to know (in various forms) the reality of what they have been mocking.{{4}}
